Location and Climate of the Tundra..
The Tundra is found north of the arctic circle and is very cold all year around. The temperature ranges from -12C to -6C, the sun is not present for more than half of the year which causes the winter to be extremely brutal. The average precipitation in the Tundra is 25 - 15 cm, this includes snow and rain.
Physical features of the Tundra..
The Tundra is very low, extremely vast and swampy. The Tundra has no trees on it due to the mixture of low sunlight and low precipitation. Since it is very cold in the Tundra, the little water that is there from rain stays because there is such low evaporation caused by the cold weather. The subsoil of the tundra is permanently frozen which cause all the plants to have very shallow roots.
Plants that live in the Tundra..
The arctic willow, has extremely shallow roots because if the permafrost in the subsoil. The roots have to be shallow to allow it to get the protein it needs to survive. The Bear Berry is a rooted berry plant that is extremely low to the ground to avoid the harsh winds. It has very fine silk hairs all over the plant to stay warm during the winter.
Animals that live in the Tundra..
The Caribou in the tundra is very plentiful, they travel in large herds to scare away predators. The fur coat is extremely thick to keep them warm during the winter. Musk oxen roam the Tundra in large herds aswel, they have very thick coats f fur and they have undercoats that keep them toasty warm in the winter time.
